BIO

Based in the foothills of Bucks County, Wineskin is an ever evolving musical machine.  The band is a four piece, and often greater than the sum of its parts.  Proudly waving the flag of rock-n-roll, they craft songs from the unique fabric it comes from.  They deconstruct the American musical landscape and draw on it's rich heritage and genres.  Never mastering any of them yet being able to deliver them in essence.  From slow country ballads to balls out, riff driven, middle finger rock songs.  They can play a ragtime feeling tune and in the next minute sound like a space ship hovering over your house. Their live shows are galvanizing, galactic, grounded and gritty.   Live music freaks compare them to Widespread Panic and Govt Mule, but its their own blood and guts you get at each gig they play and a wide range of sounds that fly off the stage. Wineskin can be filed under "struggle rock", WINESKIN has toured and shared the stage with some diverse and great bands. such as, but not limited to - Agents of Good Roots, Cracker, Ween, Strangefolk, The New Deal, Disco Biscuits, Keller Williams, The Radiators, Boris Garcia, MoistBoyz, Bernie Worrell, The Wailers, Charlie Hunter, etc.

Press/ Fan reviews

"If you're going to give your new body of songs a big brave boasting title like 'The Great American Album', then either you have a band ego the size of the Grand Canyon or you're pretty sure that you've come up with something pretty special to offer the unsuspecting hungry music lover. I first came across Wineskin via the internet music site ReverbNation a few months ago and was instantly struck by their musicality and intuitive understanding of rock 'n' roll then and now. They draw on a wide range of influences from Zeppelin to Thin Lizzy, from Little Feat and Neil Young, to the Band, and even the Drive By Truckers. One moment they're flailing you with pounding sharp-soloing rock numbers like 'Two To Go', 'Make It Work' and the mighty 'Stalker Love', the next they confidently come up with Don Henley-styled mid-tempo country rock songs like the album's opening cut 'A Thousand Tomorrows' and the spacey melodic 'Vagabond'. Wineskin hail from Bucks County in Pennsylvania and their sound is rooted in rock's 50 year old worldwide heritage which they've distilled and synthesised into a darned good debut. My favourite track though has to be the deliciously crazy Mellowing-Yellowing Donovan-influenced 'The Mighty Withlacoochee'. The quieter folky feel brings the album to a close with the live lazy sounding Lovin' Spoonful styled 'Sixteen Beers'. The five piece band is led by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Evan Walton and their musicianship is simply second to none. Have a look at Wineskin's web pages, listen to their live and demo downloads and above all treat yourself to a copy of the truly amazing 11 song set that is 'The Great American Album'"

"Just before Strangefolk, Wineskin wailed away. I must say, they had a sound that kept pulling me towards the rail, that was like an odd combination of Phish & Clutch"

"Wineskin's new vehicle , the Great American Album, is a 69 Camaro fueled by 11 eclectic tracs, driven with eyes pinned to the horizon"

The great American Album, a fitting name for a GREAT album, one of the best of the year I have heard. Wineskin has matured and grown musically since I heard them. The song writing on this album is extremely strong as is the musicianship. The addition of the second guitarist (Jared) makes their sound fuller as does the addition of Joe Bonner on keys. The new bassist (Jo Gonzales) transforms the band from a funky groove band to of a more evolved musical group along the lines of the Drive by Truckers. Tim Stevens, the other original member of the band keeps the rhythm tight with sweet drumming. The album starts out with a sound closest to their old sound as they get on the record, basically saying goodbye to the old and hello to the new as the album rolls along. Two to go is a nice Mule-esc rocker, the Mighty Withlacoochee (Nice!) a Ween-esc song with stronger musicianship, which also has a hint of Beatles. Ballad for Blues is one of my favorites on the album. This song shows Wineskin’s range and Evan’s evolution as both a singer and a songwriter. Edgar Hayseed has a nice country feel with that great Americana feel. This song is as good as any on the last Drive By Truckers album. Footsteps another great one, a touch of religion and John Meloncamp here. Make it work brings back that Mule esc rocker which brings you nicely into Stalker Love which again shows you Wineskins range. Vagabond my other favorite on the album has a nice touch of reggae and some sweet synthesizer sound. The song also displays Evan’s maturity. The peaceful man is a fun tongue and cheek late 60s psychedelic Donavan tune. Sixteen Beers has some great backup vocals with Jen Walton, Evan’s sister who has a great voice on her own. This is a great folkie style tune which raps the album up nicely. This is an album and not just 11 different tracks, all the different styles and songs jell to make The Great American Album.

Long time fan, friend and fiend for great music.

"The band delivers sweet melodies, honest vocals and guitar work reminiscent of Eric Clapton, Robin Trower & Mick Taylor"

-A Wineskin review from the U.K.
"Definitely the best good old rock'n'roll set of sounds I've heard in the past 12 months on ReverbNation. All the influences there from Zeppelin to Thin Lizzy back to Jo Jo Gunne, Eagles, Joe Walsh and on to such modern obscure heroes(in Britain, at least) Assembly of Dust.
Keep producing at this brilliant level and someday jump across the pond and do some gigs in the good old U of K please"
